Top 5 Dog Friendly Places to Visit | Rye

During the summer months we like to head out of the city and explore. We absolutely love visiting Rye after a long walk along the beautiful Camber Sands. Rye is a gorgeous medieval town where you and your dog will have a lot to explore and it's only just over an hour on the train from London.

We really enjoy going to Rye and walking through the beautiful cobbled streets whilst discovering unique boutiques, antique shops, cafes and pubs. There is so much to see and visit; tea spots, restaurants and stores with most of them being dog friendly and worth stopping by.

Here's our favourite places to visit whilst in the medieval town for you and your dog.

The George In Rye

This restaurant, bar and hotel is situated in the very heart of Rye vibrant’s High Street. Only a five minute walk from Rye station and about 15 minute drive from the sandy beaches of Camber Sands. The George has been our go to spot since we first discovered this little town a few years ago. The George has never disappointed us in terms of service and quality. The food is truly delicious from starter to dessert and in the summer you can enjoy sitting on their sun-trap terrace. Don’t let the almost ‘too chic’ atmosphere of this place confuse you as dogs are always very welcome.

The Gallivant

Now if you’re up for spending a full weekend in the area, there are some amazing hotels where you and your dog are welcome. One of those being The Gallivant where 5 of their 20 rooms are dog-friendly. Situated just across the road from an amazing sandy beach, this hotel is the perfect home away from home for you and your pup. The Gallivant has a calm and relaxing atmosphere and the food is also really good. It is a great combination of luxury and casual beachy chilled vibe. It’s a brilliant place for a little getaway weekend and made even better by bringing your dog along with you.

The Standard Inn

The Standard Inn is one of the most loved and popular pubs in Rye. This is the perfect place to go after a winter seaside walk to enjoy a warm meal or afternoon drink with your pup by an open fire. You can enjoy some delicious seasonal cooking, using local produce.

We loved the weekend vibrant and lively atmosphere. The place is very dog friendly and there’s a good chance your four-legged family member will be greeted by several local pups upon arriving, including the inn’s resident border terrier.

Hunter Jones

The two founders Michael and Michael left busy London and opened Hunter Jones in Rye in 2011. A dream come true, this lovely store offers the most beautiful curation of products. It started off with their love for vintage and antique pieces and turned into a store of their own, filled with carefully picked independent brands and beautiful lifestyle products. We love popping in for some weekend shopping while visiting Rye. And if you’re lucky enough, you and your dog might bump into Daisy, the gorgeous store pup.
