Golden Star Dog Treat Recipe

To celebrate the launch of dog trainer Julie Tottman’s new book Super Star Dogs we have designed a recipe for some Golden Star dog biscuits to help teach your dog some new tricks.
Trick-training is a fantastically easy way to bond with your dog, plus keep them active and entertained. In this clever little book from Julie Tottman – the animal trainer behind Harry Potter and Game of Thrones – you’ll discover everything you need to teach your dog the basics they need to begin learning all sorts of different tricks.

Golden Star Dog Biscuits


½ cooked sweet potato

½ fair trade banana

1tsp cinnamon

1tsp turmeric

1 cup of organic spelt flour

½ cup of organic oat bran

star shaped cookie cutters



  1. Pre heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and line a baking tray with non-stick baking paper
  1. Remove the flesh from the cooked sweet potato and add to a bowl with the banana and mash
  1. Sift the flour, turmeric and cinnamon into a bowl then add the oat bran
  1. Add the mashed banana/sweet potato mix and using your hands start to combine with the dry ingredients
  1. Slowly start to add the some water a little at a time until you have a firm dough. If your mixture is to dry add a little more and if it is to wet add a little more flour.
  1. Lightly flour a clean surface
  1. Turn the dough out onto your floured surface and using a rolling pin, roll the dough to the same thickness as a pound coin.
  1. Using a star shaped cutter, start cutting out the biscuits and placing them onto the lined baking tray making sure to leave 1cm gap between each cookie
  1. Bake for 10-12minutes or until golden and no longer soft to touch
  1. Transfer to a wire rack and leave to cool – Please make sure the cookies are completely cooled before giving to your dog

 Keep the biscuits in an airtight container for 5-7days
