Ice, Ice Doggie

With summer just around the corner and the weather starting to heat up we thought it was time to share with you our recipe for some delicious doggie ice-cream to help keep your four legged friend cool and entertained. Plus this really is an easy recipe  and your dog really will appreciate the effort
1tbsp coconut oil
1tsp peanut butter (we use Meridian as it uses no palm oil)
1 banana (mashed)
30ml of coconut water
Ice cube tray

 1.  Mash together the coconut oil, peanut butter and banana into a smooth paste

  1. Slowly pour in the coconut water until you have a double cream consistency
  1. Pour the mixture into an ice- cream tray (we love this doggie one we picked up on a recent trip to Japan)
  1. Pop into the freezer until frozen – It really is that simple!!! Then just pop out of the tray as a treat for your pup during this heat-weave

Extra tips for keeping your dog cool during the summer
Make sure your dog has access to clean water at all times, ideally a large bowl filled to the brim. Carry water and a bowl with you on walks.
On hot days, walk your dog during the cooler parts of the day, in the early morning and late evening
Watch your dog for signs of over-heating, including heavy panting and loss of energy. If you recognise these signs when on a walk, stop, find a shady spot and give your dog water.
Dogs’ paw pads can burn on hot pavements. As a general rule, if it’s too hot for your hand it’s too hot for their paws.
If it’s too hot for the usual long walk, keep your dog mentally stimulated by doing some brain games instead. Refresh their basic training or teach them a new trick
And of course NEVER leave your dog (or any pet) alone in a car, even with the windows open
